A Copperbridge Foundation Art Initiative

At Casa Fe…

Casa Lakou is a community arts event presented by the Copperbridge Foundation, promoting the Copper Arts Hub project. The first ever monthly event will take place on Saturday, July 24th, 2021 from 10:00am to 10:00pm.

In Haitian Kreyol the word lakou carries multiple meanings. It can mean the backyard, a gathering place where people come to sing and dance, to debate or share a meal. It also means “home” or “where you are from,” which in Haiti is a place filled by the ancestral spirits of all others that were born there.

Copperbridge Foundation remains committed to our mission to promote cultural and educational exchange through the
medium of artistic expression.

Creating dialogue through the arts.

From this shore, we will continue to support the artistic expression of our artists, collaborators, community, and friends, as we stand with the people of Cuba.

What began as sandwiches born out of necessity at the end of many bar nights, the recipes were refined over the years and eventually I felt ready to share them with friends. Friends with opinions. With some tweaking that crucible birthed El Alto and all the other TALL GUY SANDWICHES we love so much. Today, we cater to all tastes and walks of culinary preferences and continue to eagerly hear your feedback and are pleased that it’s often positive. So stop by and give us a try and then, of course, your thoughts.

Antiques

Gypsy Tea Shop

“Antiques, collectibles, the uniquely odd, and the oddly obscure.”

The antiques presented at Casa Lakou are pieces collected from the Gypsy Tea Shop. Chock a block with exotic treasures, items as whimsical as cobalt blue piggy banks, hand scribed rings of carved bone, curios and objects des artes. The fixtures are organic works of art, every where the eye glances something is surprising, yet nothing inhibits.

The sophisticated world traveler, owner Geo Darder (an entrepreneur and committed humanitarian of Cuban descent) created a significant example of what unbridled vision and elbow grease can accomplish. The Gypsy Tea Shop was both a store and transcendent retreat. Boasting secret nooks and delightful communal spaces, The Gypsy Tea Shop offered tarot readings, coffee readings, a library of books, and a plethora of interesting antiques. Mr.Darder managed to strike a chord that resonates in perfect harmony with its polyglot surroundings.
