Maria Theresa Barbist is an interdisciplinary artist with a focus on sculpture, performance and film. Born in 1979 in Schwaz, she worked as a psychologist and psychotherapist in Austria before relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area to study movement-based art therapy. She attended the San Francisco Art Institute where she received an MFA in New Genres. She lives and works in Miami, FL. 

Barbist has exhibited at the Kunstpavillion and Neue Galerie in Innsbruck, Austria, the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami, the Wiregrass Museum, the Miami Short Film Festival, the Northern California Performance Platform and the 2018 South Florida Biennial. She has completed residencies at the Scrawl Center for Drawing in San Francisco, ProjectArt in Miami and is currently a resident at the Bakehouse Art Complex in Miami. As part of the BABA Collective she is collecting oral histories of South Florida based artists and creatives and received a community grant from the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs for their exhibition series.
