Event Details
The American Institute of Architects Committee on Design’s first conference in South America will take place in Santiago and Valparaiso, Chile between October 20 and October 27, 2018 (springtime in Chile). Copperbridge Foundation is handling the production for this event.
The conference will include presentations by urban planners and architects and visits to significant historical sites and recently completed buildings designed by prominent architects working in Chile today. We have chosen Geo Darder of Copperbridge to help organize the conference. Many of you will recall that Copperbridge was the lead organizer of the extremely successful COD conference in Havana.
Among the prominent sites and buildings that will be visited during the conference are the Plaza de Armas and the Metropolitan Cathedral, both within walking distance of the hotels. We will also visit the National Museum of the Arts, the Contador School of Architecture and the Campus Joaquin where we will hear from representatives of Elemental. We will also tour the Monastery Benedictos and the Baha’I Temple and visit the top floor of the Gran Torre Costanera Center, designed by Pelli Clark Pelli. The observation deck provides stunning views of the city and the surrounding mountains.
Our conference will also include a visit to the highly regarded Vik winery and Hotel where we will stop on our bus trip to the scenic city of Valparaiso, located on the west coast of Chile. The conference will also feature evening events at the famed Mestizo Restaurant, the Patricia Ready Art Gallery among others and a visit with the leadership team of ArchDaily, a prominent resource for global architectural news. The conference promises to be an exceptional opportunity to learn about the history of design in a prominent and growing country.
