    Narciso Medina: Dancer, choreographer, teacher and director of Narciso Medina Dance Company, Tokyo; formerly the Narciso Medina Dance Company, Cuba.

    Born in Guantánamo, October 1961.

    Member of the International Dance Committee of UNESCO where he participated in two of its Congresses.

    Member of the group of Personalities of the Ministry of Culture of Cuba and its National Council for the Performing Arts.

    Member of the Japan Dance Association.

    Study carried out: Graduated from the National School of Art (Dance) where study from 1975 to 1981)

    PROFESSIONAL WORK:

    (1981-1993) -Twelve years as a dancer and choreographer of Danza Contemporanea de Cuba, where he reaches the category of First Soloist and Principal Choreographer.

    (1989-1993) – Intense work as a teacher, dancer and choreographer in Helsinki, Finland.

    (1994-2018). Founded and directed for more than 20 years the Narciso Dance Company Medina, in Havana, with extraordinary work of teaching dance to young people, as well as important choreographic creations with which it reaches the most diverse world stage.

    (2009-Current) He founded and directs the following projects in Japan to date: Window Study, Cuba Japan Festival, House of Culture Cuba in Japan.

    (2018-Current) Founds and directs Narciso Medina Dance Company, Tokyo, LLC.

    (1981-2020) displays an intense choreographic work in Cuba and internationally being invited to carry out important choreographic projects in Company and artistic projects being of great relevance his work as a choreographer at the Opera Popular Juliet and Romeo premiered at the Verona Arena (2009)

    AWARDS:

    UNEAC Choreography Award, Cuba.

    “Maurice Bejart” Award International competition for young choreographers from Lausanne, Switzerland. (1986)

    International Creative Dance Competition, Saitama, Japan (1997): Grand Prix, Prize of Jury, Prize of the Public.

    Choreographic work:

    As a choreographer he has a catalog of more than 100 works among which is a classic of Cuban dance: Metamorphosis.

    TOURS: His works and shows on tours have risen from the stages of: 

    Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, Surinan, Saint Kis and Nevis, United States, Canada, Spain, France, Russia, Italy, Greece, Finland, South Korea and Japan.
