World Art Deco Month

The International Coalition of Art Deco Societies (ICADS) has announced the designation
of April as World Art Deco Month and April 28th as World Art Deco Day

The Copperbridge Foundation is proud to join ICADS to participate in World Art Deco Month. We are featuring the following past programs to help celebrate the month of art deco, architecture and education. Join us in celebrating with the following events!

The month will be celebrated with online presentations created by many of the thirty societies that are members of the ICADS network. A complete list of the online presentations will be available on the ICADS website –www.icads.info as well as the societies social media. 

Art Deco was one of the first styles that achieved international popularity. It influenced architecture, interior and industrial design in major cities as well as smaller towns around the world.

Salamone (Short Film)

A documentary film about the works of Francisco Salamone (Argentine Architect). Salamone has been called “The lost futurist”, and “the architect of the pampas”. Between 1936 and 1940, the Argentine Architect Francisco Salamone created over 60 of the most outstanding buildings in the Art Deco style throughout 25 rural communities in a region of Las Pampas, Argentina.

What: Copperbridge’s fourth free online event, Francisco Salamone, Argentine Architect, premiered on Monday, November 2 at 6:00 PM ET. Havana Art Deco: Panel Discussion (Pre-Recorded)

What: Copperbridge’s sixth free online event, Havana Art Deco: Architecture & Design, premiered on Tuesday, December 15 at 6:00 PM ET. Travel online with Copperbridge and top Cuban Art Deco experts, Universo García and José A. Menéndez, as we take a historic tour of the unique Art Deco architectural gems throughout the city and the rich history of Art Deco graphic design by Enrique Garcia Cabrera in Havana, Cuba.

From iconic structures such as the Bacardi Building, America Theater, and the Lopez-Serrano, to small Art Deco homes, we will also look at some newly-remodeled Art Deco buildings which are now used for private businesses such as boutique hotels and restaurants.

Copperbridge Foundation (CBF) understands the importance of protecting, preserving, and documenting Art Deco and have worked to promote this rich heritage. CBF published the Havana Art Deco Architectural Guide by Dr. Maria Elena Martín and organized TWO World Congresses on Art Deco.

Premiere of Art Deco Rioplatense: LIVE

Join us for this online travel program to explore the rich history of Art Deco in Argentina and Uruguay with top local experts as your guides. 

Rioplatense describes the culture of a region on both sides of the Rio de le Plata that produces crops and cattle but also tango music, avant garde literature and arts as well as modern architecture and design. The minimalist landscape of plains and waters of the region inspired the building of modern artifacts that borrowed ideas, images, and materials from different parts of the world to shape eclectic cityscapes. 

During this event we will premiere Art Deco Rioplatense, a documentary film produced by Copperbridge Foundation (CBF) about the art deco jewels of Argentina and Uruguay and expands on the Art Deco phenomenon, followed by an examination of these works by world-renown experts, Fabio Grementieri – Argentine Architect, Member of the National Commission of Monuments of Argentina and Professor at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella and William Rey Ashfield– Director of the National Cultural Heritage Commission, Architect, Montevideo Modern Heritage, Doctor in Art History, Uruguayan Host, and Author.

Three cities, two countries, and countless impressive Art Deco works; the opportunity to unite architects, specialists, and aficionados of art and creation in South America; the vision, the desire, and the efforts to promote conservation and preservation awareness of Art Deco heritage in a forward motion towards the future, like Art Deco itself, in straight, uninterrupted lines. The congress offered an exceptional experience of the Rioplatense Deco World that flourished during the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s by means of tours and visits, lectures and readings, cocktails and events.
