Conscious and participating in the growth of contemporary design in Cuba, Copperbridge said goodbye to 2018 with a four-day event where the Power of Creation was the protagonist. Together with young artists who are at the forefront of today’s Cuban art and design, our foundation warmly welcomed the new year with new projects and new dreams.

From music to dance, through all forms of visual arts, the artists who accompanied us make up the best of 2018 in Cuba: George Céspedes and his dance company, Los hijos del director (The Director’s Kids), Pablo Rosendo and his murals that seem to speak to us from another dimension, the excellent creators of Estudio 50, the dreamers behind HAPE, and the new promise of Cuban music, Cimafunk. In addition, guests in attendance included important figures from the world of Cuban art such as Jorge Perugorría, Mirtha Ibarra, Rachel Valdés, Cucú Diamante, the Figueroa-Vives family, Esterio Segura, Pepe Menéndez and Laura Llópiz, Yissy Garcia, among others.

Copperbridge, the artists, and their guests celebrated, in different spaces, the ways of uniting art with life, of approaching and conspiring in favor of the future. On December 29, for example, the expo “1 cm after infinity” was inaugurated by the visual artist Pablo Rosendo, with pieces ranging from paintings to audiovisuals, occupying a large part of the headquarters of Los hijos del director.

This was accompanied by the creations of Brazilian designer, Marzio Fiorini, who created sixty unique designs on ceramic plates for the occasion. A fragment of the play El último recurso (The Last Resort), choreographed and directed by George Céspedes, was presented, and the night closed to the rhythms of DJ Wichy de Vedado, accompanied by Julio Rigal on the trumpet and Wiwi at the piano. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, together with their children, shared the evening.

Two days later, on the 31st of December, we bid farewell to the year at Estudio 50, a space that hosted Copperbridge’s Palomar project, which moved from its rooftop in Old Havana, under the premise that Palomar is not a place, but a concept. This project, led by several Cuban and foreign architects, will be presented as part of the Copperbridge projections for 2019. Traditional Cuban dinner, cocktails, and excellent company were the preamble of midnight: a concert by Cimafunk, the Cuban band that has been ripping the stage since they published the album, Terapia, in late 2017. The rest of the night was commissioned by the DJs of HAPE, the project that unites, in the same space of Havana, artists from different latitudes under a common language: music.
