Cuban Architecture: The New Movement
While some buildings have been constructed since the revolution in 1959, Cuba is mostly made up of historic buildings including Art Deco, Art Nouveau, and Colonial styles (as seen from the windows of antique cars!). So you might wonder what a modern-day architect in Cuba does! This webinar provides a unique opportunity to meet with Cuban architects, see their past work and current projects, and discuss what we like to call “The New Movement” of Cuban Architecture.

GECA Group of Cuban Architecture Studies
This is a group of Independent Cuban Architects that welcomes professionals who work inside and outside Cuba.
This group, recently created in April 2019, has captured the attention of the professional union in the Island for its inclusive, innovative and creative policy of collaborative formulas among professionals usually distanced or isolated.
The main objectives of the group are:
- Promote the creation of laws that allow the legal action of independent architects in Cuba.
- Visualization of a movement that is over 10 years old and has developed its own identity as a result of the economic, social and legal restrictions of the sector on the island.
- Generate academic and economic opportunities inside and outside Cuba, for architects of all generations with less access to clients and resources.
