    National Dance Award 2012

Order Bernando O’Higgins in the rank of Commander of the Republic of Chile Of Chilean-Ecuadorian origin, Cuba is, however, the country where it has decided to take root definitely. Havana has become, as she herself affirms: “your place in the world”

After having studied classical ballet at the National School of Art in Havana, and choreography at the University of the Sorbonne in Paris, she worked as a teacher and choreographer at the School National of Modern Dance and in the Faculty of Performing Arts of the Higher Institute of Art.

Likewise, she has given improvisation workshops and master classes in Choreographic Composition and Contemporary Dance Techniques in Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, England, France and the USA.

In addition, she has created choreographies for different professional companies, among which are Unión Dance (England) and Repertory Theater (USA).

In 1987 she founded, in Havana, the Retazos Theater Dance Company.

Under her aegis this group, whose shows have been represented in countries such as Ecuador, Mexico, Colombia, Spain, Italy, Paraguay, France and the US, among others, has developed a speech visual that is sustained in the gestures of the natural and the everyday. This aesthetic, in addition, is nourished by the collusion with the plastic arts, artistic expression in which the artist ventured since 1990, to build an aesthetic discourse that combines choreographic work with costume design and scenography.

Each year, together with her company, she organizes three events that allow, from the same Historic Center of the City of Havana, the exchange of ideas and artistic experiences between the peoples.

General Director of the Encounter on Urban Landscapes “Old Havana: City in Motion”, created by herself in 1996, this space that promotes dance work and brings the viewer a product in which the arts are mixed in a coherent discourse to interact with life and architecture of the city.

She also directs the DVDanza Habana festivals (since 2006), linking work to dance audiovisual, and Impulsos (since 2007), which brings together the talent of young choreographers.
